Vision
Matthew 9:35-38
35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
In Matthew 9, Jesus looks out at a crowd and is filled with compassion; they are like sheep without a shepherd. He then tells his disciples, the harvest is plentiful, there are many that are wanting, needing, longing to hear the good news of Jesus BUT the labourers are few.
This verse is at heart for Formation. Our hope and prayer is that God would use Formation to fashion people into labourers in God’s mission.
What is Formation?
Formation is TSCF’s new training programme for recent graduates. Over 10 months, Formation participants will, firstly, learn more about who God is and his mission in the world; secondly, they will grow in discerning their place in God’s mission. In short, the programme is geared towards equipping graduates for mission, for life.
Who is Formation for?
Formation is for recent university or polytech grads who are interested in working in vocational ministry or want to be clearer on how to work for God in another field of work.
Participants are known as ‘Formation Staff’. These are the core parts of the programme:
- Theological study
Over 10 months, Formation Staff will engage in a curriculum looking at the core convictions, character traits, competencies, and contexts of mission. - Ministry training
Each Formation Staff will receive regular investment and supervision from a TSCF Staff Worker. This investment will seek to help the Formation Staff learn and discern what their role in God’s mission is. - Church partnership
The Church is essential for God’s mission. Each Formation Staff will spend up to 1 day a week serving with their local church with the aim of growing a greater love for and commitment to the local church. - Involvement in a local TSCF group
Formation is primarily lived out on university and polytech campuses around the country. Formation Staff will be serving alongside students and staff in a local TSCF group.
Where is Formation lived out?
TSCF is all about reaching students for Christ and changing students for life. Because of that, Formation is lived out primarily on university and polytech campuses, in partnership with local churches.
