The professional veterinary world has a motto of 'Work hard, play hard'. This often involves studying fanatically then drinking up large in between the hard work. Bringing 'religion' into the workplace is frowned upon, and if you don't agree with evolution then you're considered to be either a bit stupid or insane. These are some of the struggles we face as Christian vet students.
The Christian Vets Fellowship is based at Massey, where New Zealand's only vet school is located. We are a group of both students and lecturers who meet to support each other in prayer and fellowship, as well as co-ordinating outreach to non-Christians in the vet tower. Together we seek to understand how we can put God first in our lives and yet dedicate much of our time to our work; and how should we relate to our non-Christian colleagues while holding to what we believe the Lord wants us to do.
Since we started up the group in 2008, we have been meeting together for fellowship, prayer and Bible studies. This year we plan to use the new Chaplaincy building located opposite the bus terminus for Monday lunch meetings 12-1 pm. We also have get-togethers at people's homes for shared dinners where we hang out and watch inspirational or thought-provoking DVDs. Also we have had missionary-vet guest speakers give talks that are open to the whole vet school.
This year we are continuing regular Bible studies. Our goal is to have a group of Christian friends who meet together in fellowship, building each other up and sharing the gospel, as well as praying for the needs of those around us. We are keen to support first year students who are trying to get into vet school and welcome any of these to contact us and come along to our meetings.
We'd love to hear from anyone interested in what we're doing or wanting to give input to the group.
Pray that we might be able to support 1st year Vets through the struggles and stresses of the first semester.

We anticipate more than 200 participants for SPaRC (5-9 April). Please pray for a minimum of 30 from NZ to come. We would like to have one student from each TSCF group in NZ.

Pray for needed funds for all who attend. Also, PNG and Australia are hoping to send a good number. Pray for a diverse representation including Tonga, Vanuatu and even Samoa.
